Jasper leaned on the door frame, staring into his office. Papers had been flung everywhere. The drawers in his desk were on the floor; their contents spilled in a pile. The shelves on the walls had been cleared as well. The books he had placed on the shelf lay in an untidy heap. Some had the pages ripped out; some were split at the binding.
"Why would they ransack my office? I'm too new to have anything worthwhile." He muttered under his breath. Jasper picked up the papers, stacking them on his desk in a clumsy pile. Turning to the pile on the floor, he pushed the books over with his boot. Underneath the pages was an upside down picture frame. Glass was scattered on the floor beneath it.
Stooping, Jasper picked up the picture frame and turned it over. It was one of the few personal things he kept in his office. It was an old picture of him and Opal hanging out in his room.
